Virtual Visits

Virtual visits

The eHealth Centre of Excellence facilitates integration and adoption of virtual visits with the goal of improving timely access to primary care to ensure all patients in the region are getting the care they need, when they need it.

Think Research's VirtualCare platform supports both synchronous and asynchronous secure communications between patients and providers. With the interchangeable use of secure video, phone, and chat messaging, patients and providers have the flexibility to respond to one another at their convenience.

We also support use of the eVisit platform developed by the Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN). OTN eVisit is for video visits only.

Why use virtual visits?

  • Reduce avoidable in-person visits
  • Decrease walk-in utilization
  • Securely send requisitions directly to the patient
  • Enrolled physicians are remunerated for virtual visits
  • Improves provider and patient satisfaction

What types of appointments can be seen virtually?

Some common examples include:

  • Follow-up on lab or imaging results
  • Medication renewals
  • Mental health follow-up
  • Chronic conditions
  • Rash or skin conditions
  • Health education
