Virtual Visits

What is a virtual visit?

Virtual visits allow healthcare providers to ‘see’ their patients over a secure, online communication system via chat messaging, phone or video.

The eHealth Centre of Excellence, in partnership with the OTN will be rolling out virtual visits across Waterloo Wellington in a year-long pilot.

Why use virtual visits?
  • Reduce avoidable in-person visits
  • Decrease walk-in utilization
  • Securely send requisitions directly to the patient
  • Enrolled physicians are remunerated for virtual visits
  • Improves provider and patient satisfaction
What types of appointments can be seen virtually?

Some common examples include:

  • Medication renewals
  • Follow-up on lab or imagining results
  • Rash or skin conditions
  • Chronic conditions
  • Health education
  • Seasonal allergies
  • Mental health follow-up
  • Cold and flu
