eHealth Ontario has begun onboarding additional organizations in Waterloo Wellington for Ontario Laboratories Information System (OLIS) access through the ClinicalConnect viewer, as part of the cSWO Program. Organizations with OLIS access through ClinicalConnect can view results from the OLIS-connected organizations in the laboratory, microbiology, and pathology and genetics modules in ClinicalConnect. OLIS includes community labs like CML HealthCare Inc., Gamma Dynacare Medical Laboratories, and LifeLabs LP.
When Langs CHC did not have access to OLIS information through ClinicalConnect, Bill Davidson, executive director at Langs, advocated for the value of OLIS information in the care of CHC patients:
“Our Regional Diabetes program has patients referred to us who have their own family physicians and are not part of our practice, so it is very cumbersome for our staff to get a hold of lab results. They have to call the physician’s office to have results faxed to us and then have them scanned into the chart. [Having OLIS in ClinicalConnect will] save a lot of time and provide a more comprehensive care plan to our patients.”
Langs CHC has access to OLIS data through ClinicalConnect and it supports their effort to provide safe and timely patient care.
The eHealth Centre of Excellence is working with the cSWO Program and eHealth Ontario to quickly onboard many new organizations which will also benefit from OLIS access.
