What is an Integration?

System integrations allow for interoperability between systems that would not otherwise speak to each other. Interoperability is the ability to capture, manage, communicate and exchange data accurately, effectively, securely, and consistently with different information technology systems, software applications, and networks in various settings. 

Data is exchanged in healthcare so that the clinical or operational purpose and meaning of the data remains unchanged. Interoperability also ensures the timely and seamless portability of information that allows health systems to optimize the health of individuals and populations.
